Industry 4.0 – Episode 3 : Connect humidity sensors to COMPAS

In the electronic realm, humidity can be a big deal concerning production and quality losses. For electronic components, such as memory chips or microcontrollers, a low humidity level can produce more electrostatic discharges (ESD) that damages them. While a high humidity level increases the risk of generating condensation on printed circuits boards (PCB) and corroding the copper tracks. Maintaining correct air humidity (30-50%) through humidity sensor monitoring is essential to minimize this ESD and corrosion damage.

Implementing Humidity Sensor Monitoring with Compas

At Alpha Innovations, our electronic components are stored in the storage area and used in our production area. Although we have never had a problem with humidity, we wanted to measure the percentage in our building. Why did we want to do this? First, to be informed in case the humidity level increases or decreases dramatically, but also to guarantee the quality of the componentswe use in our solutions.

Such as in episode 1 and 2 of this series, we have done more than just installing a sensor. We connected it to a UCC running COMPAS. That allows us to get an hourly, daily, monthly and yearly view of the humidity level per zone in which the sensor is placed. We have another proof of the quality of Alpha Innovations’ solutions!

A revolution? Not really but…

In this article we are talking about a humidity sensor.
